When visiting the national Parks of the American Southwest, we must expect their road trip is in order.  National Parks are remotely located, which means that you’re going to have to drive for a significant amount of time from your starting point just to get to the gates of the park.  In many instances, the drive time is probably longer than the amount of time that you’ll actually spent enjoying the park itself, which can probably put a damper on visiting.  This is why so many people who are familiar with traveling to these regions of the United States will actually fly into a starting point then arrange travel from there.  The idea is to shave as much time as possible off of the trip is spent just driving so you can have a more significant amount of time exploring the Parks themselves.  For southwestern Parks like Zion and Bryce as well as the grand canyon and monument valley, the best place to start your trip is in Las Vegas.  This is because Las Vegas is appropriately positioned in the middle of the desert, and the very positioning that once made it a place to stopover on your way from one coast to the other is now the perfect place to begin your trip.  Other areas may also be the same types of distances from the national Parks themselves, what you must realize that Las Vegas is far more appropriate to be used as a starter point men these other cities because Las Vegas is a tourist attraction.  Because Las Vegas is going to have so much airline traffic coming into it from other areas, you are going to find that the flights are cheaper and more plentiful than if you are trying to start your trip in an area like salt lake city.  If you fly into Las Vegas then arrange for transportation from there by a tour company, you can expect only minimal amounts of driving to be necessary.

 

So what can you expect as far as driving time after you arrived in Las Vegas?  Zion Canyon is located two and half hours from Las Vegas, and Bryce canyon is located 2 hours from Zion.  This is why the professional tour companies will usually use the position of Zion in order to minimize the amount of driving time and maximize the amount of exploration time in the park.  Going from Las Vegas to Zion and then on to Bryce means that you are only going to need to be on the road for a few hours before you reach each destination, and if you camp overnight in one of the Parks you will have a full day of exploration in each park, is going to be far more satisfying than driving 4 hours in only having a few hours in the park before you have to come back home.  If you’re interested in tours of Bryce and Zion, start with a trip to Las Vegas and arranging transportation from there.
