It is important that you understand that in order to enjoy the Grand Canyon as well as almost any other National Park, you have to plan for camping in between. It is almost impossible to drive all the way from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon and spend any quality time outdoors and then drive all the way back to the city in the same day. This would be a nightmare to attempt to drive back when you are tired after spending all day hiking, and it is actually a mistake that is quite often made by inexperienced tourists.
