Winter is here and temperatures have cooled off, and if you’re planning a trip to Las Vegas you might think that it’s not a good time to go to see the Grand Canyon using Las Vegas as a starting point.  Nothing is further from the truth, and we had even heard that some people are under the impression that the Grand Canyon isn’t even open in the wintertime.  This is not true, and while the north rim is closed during the winter, the main areas that are the national park places that you have seen in books and magazines are all open and fully functional year round.  While there may be some portions and viewpoints that are closed due to snow or ice, this is actually rare and you will find that the majority of time the entire area is open and fully functional.  There are actually benefits to go in to the Grand Canyon in winter that many will say are so worth it that they actually called the period in between October and springtime the secret season.
