The Grand Canyon is located in Page AZ,
and is roughly a 4 1/2 hour drive from both Salt Lake City and Las Vegas which
represent the nearest major Metropolitan areas. Although there are other towns
there are closer to the Grand Canyon itself , these 2 cities are the ones with
airports large enough to support traffic from major airline carriers. This is
important in the planning of any trip to the Grand Canyon because you are going
to need to figure out the most convenient way to get from your home to the
Canyon itself. You may have had the desire to see the Grand Canyon for many
years, only to have those plans not take shape because of the sheer
difficulties involved in getting to and from the park. While it would make
sense that there would be more modern conveniences that would cater to the
major amounts of tourist traffic that visit the Grand Canyon every year, the
federal regulations surrounding national parks do not allow for development in
or around the area itself. This means that there will never be an airport or
hotel built near the Grand Canyon . While it might sound illogical do not cater
to the desires and needs of tourists who want to visit the location , what we
must understand is that the Grand Canyon itself is not technically a tourist
location. It is a protected space that the government has decided has enough
significance that it must be prevented from being developed in order to remain
unspoiled. This means that even though it would be more convenient to allow for
the development so as to increase tourism to the area, the types of development
that would happen to cater to these tourists has been determined to be
detrimental to the area itself. This means that you are going to have to drive
if you ever want to see The Grand Canyon.
Traveling to the Grand Canyon is best to
start from an area like Las Vegas or Salt Lake City that you can use as a
starting point. If you want to arrange a car to drive from that city to the
Grand Canyon , you must understand that this is not a drive like you are
probably used to. Driving across the desert is unlike driving in most areas,
being completely undeveloped and devoid of the typical visual markers that make
a drive of 1/2 day easier to do. The majority of the desert looks exactly the
same, with few things that are going to break up the monotony of the scenery.
This means you are going to be driving for many hours without anything to
stimulate your entertainment, and you will probably be driving through an area
that has nearly no cell service. If it sounds intimidating , it is. Driving an
unfamiliar car across the desert for upwards of 1/2 day in each direction can
be quite difficult to accomplish. If you really want to enjoy yourself at the
Grand Canyon , most people will agree that it is better to simply arrange a
tour that will drive you from your Las Vegas hotel to the Grand Canyon National
Park itself , as well as providing for you all of the arrangements of the trip.
